Platform attributes
Platform attributes make it easier to apply common settings to similar attributes on different casetypes. This is useful for commonly used attributes, such as email address, bank account number, or phone number. For example, if you have multiple casetypes that will include an account number, you could use a platform attribute to define the data type, validation rules, instructions for users, and data retention period that apply to all account numbers.
Platform attributes also allow you to combine details from different casetypes into a single dataset. For example, if you have separate casetypes for Employee
and Contractor
, you can use platform attributes for the attributes that both casetypes have in common (such as first name, last name, start date, and user ID). You can then create a dataset containing both casetypes, with single columns for the attributes they have in common.
You can create platform attributes from the Platform attributes page in your Studio. For more information about the available options, see Attributes.
Once you have configured a platform attribute, you can use it as the basis for an attribute on a casetype. The casetype attribute inherits the settings of the platform attribute. When you add an attribute to a casetype, you can override these settings (other than the data type) as required. You can also override platform attribute settings when you include an attribute on a form.
